The Essex Concert Orchestra performs popular programmes three or four times a year.
Works included in the programmes are typically preceded by a short verbal analysis presented by the conductor, during which sections of the Orchestra may play selected excerpts before the performance in full. This has become the Orchestra’s popular characteristic style of performance.
The Orchestra is a “not for profits” organisation and, as such, occasionally makes donations to charities. For example, it has made donations to the RNLI and to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, and more recently dedicated its St. George’s Day baroque concerts in support of the Mayor’s Charities.
It is also seen as a high calibre semi-professional orchestral body, which is available for hire or commissioning by charities, trusts and other musical organisations.
The Essex Concert Orchestra is made up of top musicians from the Essex area. These individuals include professional performers, students at prominent London and Essex music colleges, and local music teachers.
Essex Concert Orchestra is a member of Southend on Sea Arts Council and subscribes to Making Music (formerly the National Federation of Music Societies).
